By the time of his death in 2000, Barry Ulanov was a well-known lecturer and author of over 40 books on religion, psychology, and the performing arts. He was a professor of English at Barnard College for 35 years and adjunct professor of Religion at Columbia University. He was an active member of the Vatican II Council, where he was involved in the translation of the liturgy into the vernacular from Latin, and he spoke at the International Eucharistic Congress with Pope Paul VI in Bombay in 1964.
